From our new Akron Council President
Whether you are new or returning as an officer or principal this fall, I welcome you to the 2010-11 school year.
The primary role as a PTA council is to support our member local units in their mission to speak for every child with one voice. Goals for this year include strengthening our connections to the local units through training, regular communication and ongoing support. I also hope to build upon our council website which went live this summer. I want all of our local units to have improved access to all of the information they need to keep their PTAs running and in good standing.
Additionally, sharing information from National PTA and Ohio PTA is a key function of our council. A wealth of priority programming information for our local units in the areas of arts in education, education enrichment, environmental education, wellness, special services, parent education, youth services, and parent and family involvement is available.
Over the summer, I had two training sessions, along with a family night at the Akron Aeros. If you were unable to make it, you missed some valuable training to help get you started for the year
As we begin to start the year, please keep in mind that the Council meetings are every first Monday at the OTT bldg at 7 p.m. However, the September meeting will be exception because of Labor Day, the meeting will be on Tuesday September 7 at 7 p.m.
I am fortunate that our council officers, committee chairs and our local units give generously of their time to make these programs happen for students in our area. Thank you in advance and let’s make this an outstanding year!
Together, we can Achieve More!!!!
Speaking for every child with one voice,
Rhonda Ferguson
